Town Reserves 1 Ivy Tavern 4
Lincoln
League Saturday
08-01-2011
Finally
after several weeks of bad weather football finally returned
too the Wong
on
a very sunny but also chilly in the wind day, the visitors Ivy
Tavern were still unbeaten in the league and top of the table.
Town were missing the services of
top
scorer Will Carter who was on duty for the 1st team
along with ever
dependable
Luke Shelbourn . Still Town
had a very decent squad although very young squad which all
bodes well for the future of the football club.
Unfortunately
for Town it seemed as if the lay off had done them no favours
as Ivy were 2 up within 10mins both goals due too very bad
defending although the second goal should not have stood as a
blatant foul on full back Boddily went unpunished by what
turned out too be probably the worst referee too ref a game
on
the wong in years.
Once
Town had gone 2-0 down they seemed too wake up and then settle
into a
very
good rhythm with Baxter and Benson running the midfield and
looking too
play
football at every opportunity .20minutes Town got there reward
as Hinckley
took
a free kick from just inside the Ivy half floated into the box
Baxter rose well
and
knocked ball back too Maszyr who struck a fierce first time
strike into the bottom corner giving the keeper no chance what
a way too open your account
for
your new club! Town continued on the front foot with Sewell
missing a great chance too equalise, as the game headed
towards half time Ivy started too gain
the
upper hand but Laughton made a couple of fine saves,
Stephenson was
having
a solid game just in front of back 4 .H/T.
Second
half started with Lewis being introduced and full back for
Boddily, Town new the next goal was crucial and they tried as
hard as they could too break through the Ivy ranks but too no
avail Shackleton was introduced in place of Smith with half
hour too go after Smith was suffering from a bad back, Town
reshuffled slightly and Shackleton was full of running then
came what can only be described the worst 2 decision made by a
referee in a long time which ultimately cost Town anything
from this game. A great run by Baxter too the edge of the box
and has he left fly the Ivy defender slid across and deflected
the ball for a corner but somehow the referee who was stood
within 5 yards said goal kick, Baxter unhappy by this asked
the referee why not a corner and was promptly booked
unbelievable. Even more frustrating was the fact that Ivy then
went straight up the other end ball over
the
top of the defence 2 Ivy players bearing down on Laughton when
the number
11
then passed the ball forward too the number 10 who was 4 yards
in front of everyone too put into the empty net no-one could
understand how offside wasn’t given but I think the referee
had a different rule book too everyone else. This
totally
knocked the stuffing out of Town.
Ward
came on for the hard working Stephenson for last 15 mins .Ivy
wrapped the game up with the goal of the game in the 82nd
minute some neat football then a defence splitting pass and a
clinical finish by the number 10 too seal there victory.

Cooper Cup Quarter Final
Saturday
23th October Kick
Off 13-45pm
Town
travelled too Washingborough for the second time this season
hoping too improve on League Result of a 6-0 defeat and it has
too be said this performance was Towns best performance of the
season all 11 players that started gave 110% from the out set
and never gave up against what can only be described as
probably the best side and most certainly the most experienced
side in the league.
Louis
.B. came in for Danny(Enoch) Laughton who was working there
was a start
at
left back for Jamie Lewis and Ryan Benson and Jack Baxter both
returned too the middle of the park .Town started at a furious
pace which caught the opposition of guard playing some
fantastic football but unfortunately without the end product
and also some good stops by the opposition goalie ,Harry .H.
J.Baxter and Benno were superb in the middle of the park with
Harry H especially having his best game of the season
,unfortunately for Town they went a goal down after 30mins
some
neat
precise football from Washingborough produced the opener 1-0
,Town then weathered a spell just before half-time with Shelly
and Harry.M. solid in the centre
of
defence and Louis was on hand if needed H/T.
Town
went out for second half still in this game and probably
unfortunate too be behind and too make matters worse
Washingborough got a second 5 mins into second half , just
what we didn’t need but Town then started too get a foot
hold
again
and Washingborough thought they had done enough but Town had
other
idea
a great ball out of defence into the corner which Dave
Anderson ran onto
and
put a perfect cross into the middle were Will Carter meet it
with his head goal 2-1 only what the lads deserve now with
that belief Town went in search of an equaliser and a great
through ball saw Will Carter through 1on 1 with the keeper
and
after doing the hard work of getting the goalie too go too
ground somehow put the ball wide .5 mins later Wasingborough
number 5 went through Harry Hinckley and was booked from the
resulting free kick the same player then decide too
punch
the ball away penalty !! with manager Batista shouting for
Benno too take it Will grab the ball placed it down and placed
it coolly in the corner 2-2 what a
great
comeback and what the lads deserved Town pushed and pushed for
a winner in 90 mins but it just wouldn’t come so into extra
–time we went unfortunately for Town the experience of the
opposition then told as they scored too quick goals in first 5
mins of extra time and although Town kept going just
couldn’t get it back
final
whistle 4-2 A.E.T.
It
was nice too see the first team manager and assistant and
captain at the game along with a couple of the Wongers thanks
chaps for your support .
Brilliant
team performance and it is only time before all the good
football and hard work pays off well done lads .

Cup Quarter-Final
Saturday
16th October 13-45
pm Kick Off
Well
what can you say sixth game of the season 3 games all against
Waddington and all the same result a Waddington win, Town will
certainly be pleased too see
the
back of them for a few months.
Town
were without the very influential Ryan Benson due too work
commitments
and
they did miss his presence, however Luke Shelbourne came in
centre of defence alongside Harry Meszyr and a first start of
the season for Dave
Anderson
up front alongside Will Carter .
The
first half turned out too be a very even contest with both
sides cancelling
each
other out very few opportunities’ really for either side
Town tried there best
too
play the football but Waddington were hell bent on just
kicking Town off the
park
and the referee didn’t seem too want too give Town any
decision, half time whistle went with the score 0-0.
What
happened next was quite unbelievable within 5 minutes of the
restart Town were 2-0 down bad marking and ball giving away
lead too both goals manager Batista react immediately by
taking the usually dependable Bods of
and brought
on
Jamie Lewis and then 5 minutes later replaced the lack lusture
Tom Phillips
with
the young raw talent of Keiron Hotchin but too no avail as
Town continued
too
give the ball away even the keeper Danny Laughton got in on
the act kicking
3
goals in succession straight too Waddingtons forwards 15 mins
from time Waddington added a third a carbon copy of the first
and that was that really a
very
disappointing display has too be said probably the worst so
far this season
lets
hope things improve next week when Town travel too
Washingborough in the David Cooper Cup kick off 1-45pm .

Saturday
2nd October Kick
Off 2.30pm
Having
met the previous week at Waddington and losing out with 30
seconds left 2 – 1 ,Town were looking for revenge and even
though the Waddington team turned up with the odd one or two
of Lincoln United
Reserve players in there line up ,Town were still in the mood
for revenge, with the weather set fair Town kicked off and
started passing the ball around confidently and were looking
comfortable on the ball with Oli Kisby coming back from injury
along with Ryan Benson and Lee Mullins controlling the middle
of the park ,then 15 mins in Town were rewarded with the
opening and deserved goal with a great passing move started by
Carl Smith and exchanging passes with Lee Mullins with Smithy
playing ball into Benno and back too Smithy whos perfect cross
was met on his left foot by Will Carter who powered the ball
into the corner 1-0.Town seemed in control until on 24mins
Jack Baxter lost the ball on the right and 4 passes later the
Waddington number 9 slotted the ball calmly pass Danny
Laughton 1-1.
On
30 mins a great ball into the corner by Lee Mullin which Will
Carter reached and his first time low cross found Benno who
slotted home too restore Towns lead which they deserved,
things got even better 2mins later when another superb passing
move between Smithy,Will and Bennos unselfish lay off too Jack
Baxter who scored in an empty net 3-1 and cruising or so it
seemed worse was too happen for Waddington when they were
reduced too 10 men when a wreckless challenge by Waddington
number 7 looked like being only yellow but foul and abusive
language made it a straight red ,unfortunately for Town Harry
M seemed too be struggling due too the tackle .
Waddington
seemed too be spurred on by going down too 10men and 2 goals
in as many minutes after what only be described as suicide
defending by Town gave Waddington a life line and a remarkable
half time scoreline of 3-3.
Harry
M injury was too bad for him too continue so on came Pete Ward
as his replacement the second half was a very even contest
Town were struggling too find there passing game and this only
encouraged 10 man Waddington too come forward then on 70mins a
really poor goal kick by Danny Laughton was pounced on by
Waddingtons number 9 who powered the ball away for a goal 3-4.
Town
decided too throw Jamie Lewis on for the tiring Lee Mullin and
Jamies first action was too launch a long throw into the box
on 80mins which was flicked on by Will Carter and up popped
Benno and the far post too head his second and Towns fourth
4-4.There was then some very strange refereeing decision a
tackle just in front of the dug outs and just yards from the
ref went unpunished when Oli Kisby was taken out and could
have been a lot worse, then with just 5 minutes left the
Waddington number 9 took a theoretical tumble in the box and
the ref pointed too the spot the number 9 picked himself up
and completed his hat trick too make the final score 4-5
This
left a bitter taste in the Town players mouth and eager too
get revenge when the teams meet again in 2 weeks time
in the quarter finals of the Amateur Cup .
No
game next week so that means 3 games on the trot against
Waddington lets hope
its
3rd time lucky.

Saturday
25th September 3pm Kick Off
Town
travelled too Waddington on Saturday buoyed by a great result
the week before in the cup knowing that Waddington would be
there opposition in the next round so a chance too pit our
wits against them.
Town
kicked off against the wind and up the slope and could not
have wished for a better start a great passing movement almost
straight from kick off lead too Will Carter having a great run
down the right side then putting a great cross too Carl Wilson
on the left and he finished superbly first time into the far
corner giving the keeper no chance after just 45 seconds 0-1.
The
game then settled into a very even contest with both midfields
cancelling each other out ,15mins in Danny Laughton pulled off
a great one handed save too deny the Waddington number 8 from
fully 30 yards.
Town
then put together the best move of the match Bods started a
great flowing move playing ball into Will Carters feet his
first time flick off into the path of
Harry Hinckley whos first time pass split the
Waddington defence too find the goalscorer Carl Wilson whos
low cross shot went just wide.
Danny
Laughton was once again called into action moments later too
pull off another superb one handed save , unfortunately
moments later the Waddington 8 struck from distance and it
looked like Danny would get there but slipped and unable too
recover making the score 1-1 the half then just settled down
no real opportunities for either side but it has too be said
Ryan Benson was controlling the game in the middle of the
park. H/T.
Second
half was basically a mirror image of the first half without
too many chances for either side Benson and Smith were in
control in the middle of the park Carter was working
tirelessly upfront .Harry M was superb in heart of defence
always looking in control and never under pressure at anytime
.
Town
had several free kicks but kept getting caught off side direct
from them which was disappointing as time ticked away Town
decided too freshen things up by bringing on Keiron Hotchin
for his league debut and he didn’t look out of place
replacing new signing Lee Mullin who had a steady game at
centre half ,Jack (jesus)Marshall came on to replace the goal
scorer and hard working Carl Wilson who is gaining his match
fitness with every game ,Jamie lewis replaced Bods with just
minutes remaining .
It
looked as if the game was petering out too a deserved draw for
both team when Waddington were awarded a free kick on the half
way line with 30 secs remaining the ball was launched into the
box and the Waddington 8 just got a slight touch and the ball
flew into the top corner 2-1 Town just had time too kick off
before ref blew for full time bitter blow but the performance
was encouraging and Town have the chance next Saturday too
gain revenge when Waddington are the visitors too the Wong 3pm
kick off .

Ivy
Tavern 0 Horncastle Reserves 1
18-09-2010
After last weeks somewhat
unfair score line at Washingborough in our first league game
we travelled too The Ivy which is were you always know you are
in for a hard gruelling game and
this is exactly how it turned
out.
Town
had 3 players missing from last week 2 due too injury but in
came Luke Shelbourn in the centre of defence and Tom Phillips
in need of match practice into midfield.
Game
started with Ivy having lots of procession and threatening our
goal on several occasion but the back four of Bods, Shelly,
Harry M,Spooner held firm and solid with the assistance of a
much better looking form wise of keeper Danny Laughton who
looked in confident mood .
After
the initial 15mins of early pressure Town got a foot hold in
the game and after making a slight tactical switch of bringing
Harry Hinckley out too the right of midfield and putting Tom
Phillips in the middle too partner Smithy , Harry h suddenly
found he had more time and space and at every opportunity ran
at his full back too great affect now Town were beginning too
dominate and all we really needed was a goal too top the
procession and advantage off .
35
mins a Shelly free kick from the half way was floated into the
box were Will Carter got a flick on too Smithy who calmly in a
crowded penalty area knocked the ball back too Will who
slotted the ball into the bottom corner giving the keeper no
chance and this was just reward for weathering the early
pressure from the home side 0-1. Shortly after Tom Phillips
got booked more through the protests of the Ivy players more
than anything else, H/T
Second
half started and we knew we would have too weather the storm
which was always gonna come and too the credit each and
everyone of the players on the pitch worked hard for each
other never gave up both Harrys, were outstanding along with
Shelly and Bods who after 75mins had too come off after been
run ragged by the left winger all day on went manager Battista
into middle of park with Harry Hinkley moving too right back
too look after there left winger which he did comfortably with
90mins looming Town were taking the sting out the game at
every opportunity and this was begin too rattle The Ivy but
Town were not too be denied on this day a truly deserved
victory and probably one of the toughest places too go but
Town advance in the Quarter Finals too play Waddington away
which again will be a tough game . Just
a thank you too Jack for running the line and Kieron for
turning out much appreciated, well done lads.

11-09-2010
After
a good pre-season Horncastle went into this first league game
full of confidence and on paper what looked like a strong line
up hopes were high.
As
the game started Horncastle looked confident and dominated
possession with Ryan Benson ,Carl Smith dominating middle of
the park however for all the domination and good fluid
football Horncastle couldn’t find a way through a very
strong back line of Washingborough .
After
30mins Washingborough changed there formation after been over
run for the entire game and almost immediately with almost
there first meaningful attack took the lead when unfortunately
for Horncastle the ball came across from the left and after
bouncing and spinning around goalkeeper Danny Laughton pushed
ball onto post only too see the ball spin back and spin off
the back of him and trickle into the net 1-0.
38
mins in what looked like a foul in the middle of the park on
Harry Hinkley went unpunished when the ball came straight
across from the right where the left winger ghosted in
unchallenged and finished off with an half volley into the top
corner giving keeper Laughton no chance 2-0. Shortly after
Ryan Benson got booked for his first real untimed challenge of
the half which seemed rather harsh .H/T
Horncastle
made a substitution at half time with Carl Wilson coming on
for Harry Hinkley who looked as if he was struggling from an
earlier challenge ,and also changed too a 4-4-2 formation too
try and give the non stop hard working Will Carter some
support upfront .
Horncastle
seemed too settle ok in second half but 10 mins into half
Washingborough played a free kick out too left winger who’s
first time cross found the head of the number10 unmarked for a
free header unchallenged into top corner from 5 yards out
Washingborough
started too boss the game in the middle of the park,
Horncastle midfield began too look tired but when in
procession still tried too play football.
Unfortunately
two really sloppy conceded goals in as many minutes put
Washingborough 5-0 up after 73minutes which really knocked the
stuffing out the side.
Jamie
Lewis came on for a very tired and frustrated Ryan Benson and
after a reshuffle Town started playing some good neat football
but without any real threat on goal until Carl Smith whipped a
really decent free kick too the back post where J.Lewis met it
first time and should have scored but hit the post and
rebounded back too Will Carter who saw his first time effort
well saved by the Washingborough keeper.
6-0
Washingborough completed their scoring in the 88th minute with
another well worked goal and on this performance they could
well be title contenders they were well organised and a very
solid outfit.
Also
a very big thank you too Liam for travelling with the squad
and running the line.
Horncastle
next week travel to the Ivy Tavern in the Amateur Cup lets
hope for better news then .

Town
Reserves 1 Harpers FC 1
Town
Reserves pre-season continued with a decent work out against
local Sunday League side Harpers FC. Town were certainly the
better side in the first half and deservedly led through a
fine Carl Smith strike after good work from Carl Wilson.
However, the visitors enjoyed the better pf things after the
break and after James Stephenson was penalised for a foul on
Andy Shackleton, Ryan Benson stepped forward to convert from
the penalty spot. Town should have restored their lead towards
the end of the game but Matt Roberts somehow steered Matty
Low's driven cross away from goal with the net gaping.
Town
Reserves do not play again until Wednesday August 31st when
they entertain Woodhall Spa U18's on The Wong.
Fishtoft
Reserves 3 Town Reserves 8
Town Reserves secured a third win
in pre-season with a confidence boosting performance at
Fishtoft. Town started well and had scored five goals inside
the first thirty minutes. A well struck free-kick brought a
goal for the home side but Town continued to dominate and two
late goals from the home side brought some respectability for
the home side. Town's goals came from Tom Sewell (3), Andy
Shackleton (3), Will Carter and Kieran Hotchin.
Both Town sides have
games this week with Town's First Team travelling to RAF
Coningsby on Tuesday and the Reserves entertaining Harpers on
Wednesday.
