Horncastle
u12s finished there campaign in a very respectable fifth place
after coming up against some good, strong footballing teams in
the C division. Town got the season off to a flier with a
comprehensive 12-0 win over local rivals Woodhall Spa. We
played eight games before there was an extended break with
snow causing cancellations in November and December. We played
eight games before the winter break winning four and losing
four. After a disappointing end to last season I was looking
for a much improved final third of the season and that is
exactly what I got. The whole team played outstanding for the
last eight games which saw us win six of them. A disappointing
final game defeat to Greenbank did not dampen spirits as the
season ended with more highs than lows. The top goal scorers
of the season were Tom Johnson with 23, Ben Wythe with 9, and
Archie Kavanagh with 6. The Two main highlights of the season
were the first game against Woodhall Spa where probably our
best team performance ended in a 12-0 drubbing and a home game
against the then leaders Alford who were unbeaten so far. This
was a great battling and strong defensive performance in which
we came out on top 3-2.
Presentation
Most
improved player of the year was a tough decision with all
thirteen players in with chance. I decided to give it to our
goalkeeper Kyle Jones who has progressed so much as the season
has gone on. He had five clean sheets and made so many saves
that resulted in us winning games rather than losing.
Players
Player of the Year went to Tom Johnson who scored 23 goals and
after moving from left wing to striker, this was a great
return. He scored three great goals in the away match at
Welton to complete a hat-trick and one superb strike from 20
yards against league champions
Boston
Town
.
Managers
Player of the Year was the tightest decision of all with our
two centre backs being outstanding throughout the season. Will
Guerenneur and Jack Motson have partnered each other for so
many games and made so many tackles that saved us points. In
the end Jack just came out on top. One away game at Alford
Jack played his socks off and nearly stopped them scoring on
his own.
My
thanks go to sponsors Polypipe who bought us a brand new kit
for the season. My assistant manager Paul Hunt and linesman
Neil Carlton for all there help at training and on matchdays.
Dawn Hunt who washes the shirts every week and Martin Kirk who
writes the reports for the paper and website. Finally, a big
thanks to all the parents who come week in week out to support
the lads.
All
players have been a credit to
Horncastle
Town
and the commitment shown at training really did pay off come
match day. Hopefully next season can be even better and maybe
a title charge can be achieved.

27-03-
2011
Horncastle
Town U12 played host to an undefeated Alford U12 side (Won16
Drawn 1 Lost 0) and came out the victor by the odd goal in 5
in a thrilling match.
Alford
started the better of the two sides forcing Jones to pull off
a number of good saves and hitting the cross bar with a shot
from inside the 18 yard box but it was Town who opened the
scoring, slightly against the run of play. After putting the
Alford defence under pressure Wythe’s pass into the box
found Johnson who did well to make some space and beat the
Alford keeper with a low shot. Alford had a couple of chances
to level the score but Town extended their lead when Wythe’s
cross was flicked on by Johnson in the box for Hunt to volley
in at the back post with a cracking strike. Alford pulled one
back just before half time when their striker shot looped over
Jones in goal.
Alford
continued to press in the second half forcing Jones to make
some good saves and Carlton to clear one shot off Town’s
goal line. The visitors got their break half way through the
second half when they converted a penalty awarded for hand
ball. The visitors continued to attack the Town goal but it
was the home side that regained the lead when Johnson’s
cross into the Alford box caused some confusion and the ball
was headed in by a defender. Alford fought hard to find the
equaliser but Motson and Guerenneur battled hard in Town’s
defence to deny Alford any decent chances.

Horncastle
continued their current run of good results with their 5th
win in 6 games with a comfortable win over Hykeham Tigers.
Town
quickly settled and soon started putting the visitors under
pressure. They soon got their reward when Johnson received the
ball on the edge of the area, held off the Hykeham defenders
and beat the keeper from close range. Town extended their lead
soon after when Williams played a ball through for Johnson who
scored his second of the game when he beat the keeper from
range.
Both
teams fought hard to take control of the game but neither team
really took control. Both sides had some chances to extend
their lead when Johnson, Motson and Hunt all had shots saved
and Hykeham had a chance cleared off the line and a couple of
efforts go wide but they struggled to apply any pressure on
Town allowing them to comfortably take all the points.

06-03-2011
Horncastle won their fourth game in five with a hard fought
victory over Saxilby.
Saxilby started the better of the two sides soon pressuring
the Town goal hitting the bar twice, the post once and forcing
Jones to make a couple of good saves. Town fought hard to gain
a foothold in the match and Bookman had an good chance saved
by the Saxilby keeper and another cleared of the line. Town
finally broke the deadlock when Bookman received a throw in
from Hunt, beat the Saxilby defender and crossed for Kavanagh
to score from 6 yards out.
Saxilby continued to press in the second half shooting wide
on a couple of occasions but they soon equalised when a quick
ball over the Town back four was pounced on by the Saxilby
striker who beat the advancing Jones on the edge of the 18
yard box. Town fought back with Hunt having a shot cleared off
the line and Kirk having a good shot saved by the keeper but
the home side eventually scored the winner when a Wythe corner
was cleared back to Wythe who crossed to the near post for
Bookman to score from close range.

Horncastle Town U12 travelled to Welton on Sunday and made it
3 wins out of 3 when they came from 2 goals down to take all
the points.
Both sides settled quickly with both sides creating some
early chances but it was Welton who took the lead when they
broke down their left and the Welton striker beat Carlton from
close range. Welton extended their lead shortly after when
some poor defending from Town allowing the Welton striker to
beat Carlton from 10 yards.
Town soon started to work their way back into the game when
Wythe played in Johnson who beat the keeper from close range.
Town equalised just before half time when Wythe and Johnson
again linked up for Johnson to beat the keeper from long
range.
Welton had a couple of chances early in the second half when
they had a free kick from 20 yards saved by Carlton and Hunt
cleared a ball off the goal line. Wythe extended Town’s lead
when Kavanagh won a tackle on the edge of the Welton box with
the ball falling to Wythe who scored from 12 yards. Johnson
scored his hat-trick when Kirk played in Hunt on the wing
whose cross to the back post was fired into the roof of the
Welton goal by Johnson. Welton pulled one back late on when a
quick ball over the top caught the back 4 out but Town hung on
for all the points.

Town U12 played Boston Saints on Sunday and came away with the
points from an easy win.
Town

all shooting wide from good position but Wythe scored Town’s
second when he connected with a Johnson corner.
In
the second half Town continued to press with Wythe and
Williams both having good chances but Bookman made it 3 – 0
tapping in a Williams cross from close range. Bookman scored
his second shortly after when he again tapped in from close
range with Johnson the provider. Johnson grabbed his second
shortly after when his initial shot was tipped onto the post
by the Boston keeper but Johnson was first onto the rebound.
Town continued to dominate with Williams, Kavanagh and Wythe
all having good chances. Right at the end of the match Boston

Division C
13-02- 2011
Horncastle
Town U12 entertained Woodhall Spa under 12’s on Saturday and
were lucky to come away with a draw.
Town
started well dominating the early stages of the match and soon
earning their reward when Hunt volleyed in from a Wythe
corner. The home side continued to play good attacking
football but were unable to capitalise allowing Woodhall to
work themselves back into the game. A throw in on the left
caught the home side napping allowing the Woodhall striker to
beat Jones from close range.
Kavanagh
had a chance just before half time to restore Town lead when
he latched onto a long ball from the back but he put his shot
wide of the goal. The second half was all Woodhall with
Town’s struggling to contain the Woodhall Spa and create any
decent chances themselves. Jones made a number of good saves
and the Woodhall attackers shot wide on at least 3 occasions
from excellent scoring positions.
Town had a corner late in the game but Kirk’s shot
was blocked and the game ended a draw.

Boston Saints U12 0 – 7 Horncastle Town U12
Lincolnshire Co-op Mid Lincs Youth League (Boys) Under 12
Division C
06-02- 2011
Horncastle Town U12 travelled to Boston on Sunday to play
bottom of the table Boston Saints and made it 3 wins out of 3
with a fairly routine win.
Town started off quite well creating some early chances but
it took them about 10 minutes to score the first goal when
Johnson received the ball in the box and made some space to
beat the keeper from close range. Town had a number of chances
to extend their lead, including a penalty miss from Pinkett
after Kavanagh was fouled in the box, but Carlton made it 0-2
right on half time with a low drive past the keeper when
Johnson’s pass found him unmarked in the box.
Town picked up the pace in the second half and soon started
overpowering the Saints defence with Williams, Rodrigues, Kirk
and Kavanagh all having shots saved. Town extended their lead
when Kirk picked up the ball in midfield and jinked his way
through the Saints defence to beat the keeper from close
range. Town made it 0-4 when Carlton crossed for Pinkett to
score from close range. Johnson bagged his second with a low
drive in the 18 yard box and Williams got his name on the
score sheet when he broke down the right, cut inside and beat
the onrushing keeper with a chip. Johnson completed the
scoring and his hat-trick when Kirk played him in so he could
beat the keeper from close range. Rodrigues, Pinkett and
Williams all had excellent chances to extend Town’s lead but
they had to settle for 7.

Market Rasen U12 1 – 2 Horncastle Town U12
Lincolnshire Co-op Mid Lincs Youth League (Boys) Under 12
Division C
30-01- 2011
Horncastle Town U12 travelled to Market Rasen on Sunday to
play their U12 team and came away with all the points after a
strong second half defensive performance.
Town started the brighter of the two sides dominating the
play and putting Rasen under pressure at the back. 10 minutes
in and Town earned their reward when Hunt clipped a ball over
the full back for Johnson to pass the ball across the six yard
box for Kavanagh to score into an empty net. Town kept
Rasen’s opportunities to a minimum and extended their lead
when Wythe played in Johnson who scored from a tight angle.
Town should have extended their lead when Williams shot wide
and Rodrigues had an effort cleared off the line. Just before
half time Rasen cleared their lines and their striker broke
clear of the Town defence and lobbed Jones from 18 yards.
The second half was a hard fought affair with Rasen pressing
and Town looking to extend their lead through counter
attacking. Jones made a number of excellent saves to deny
Rasen including a mistimed clearance from his own defence.
Johnson had an excellent chance to put the result beyond doubt
when he shot wide but Town hung on until the final whistle.

Mayflower
Youth U12 0 – 1 Horncastle Town U12
Lincolnshire
Co-op Mid Lincs Youth League (Boys) Under 12 Division C
23-
01-2011
Horncastle
U12s currently in 7th position of the C division played
against the team directly below them in the league only three
points behind Town. The game panned out how the league table
suggests with there being nothing between the two sides. Town
travelled to Boston with only eleven men with Jinky Kirk
injured, Jack Motson ill and Kyle Barnett and Ryan Brookman
both unavailable so if we were to come away from the game with
a result they would all have to play well for the whole sixty
minuets. Tom Johnson moved back to the centre of midfield
alongside Joe Hunt and Oakley Rodrigues partnered Ben Wythe up
front.
Mayflower
just edged the first half’s play and maybe should have been
at least one up at the break after missing two great chances.
One falling to their striker, who with an open goal in front
of him missed the target and put it over. The other to there
left winger who when one on one with Town keeper Kyle Jones
could only hit the post. Town went in at the half having
created few chances and not kept possession of the ball well
enough.
There
was a change of personnel for the second half with Ben Wythe
dropping into midfield and Oakley Rodrigues moving to right
wing with Tom Johnson and Louis Williams making a new
partnership up front. This paid dividends instantly with Town
getting hold of the ball more and more and looking threatening
with some good passing play. The winning goal came after forty
minutes with some nice work between Wythe and Williams set
Rodrigues through one on one with the keeper and he calmly
poked the ball under the advancing keeper and into the net.
Chances then fell to Williams and Johnson but neither could
put the game beyond Mayflower. The last five minutes proved
very much back to the wall as Mayflower kept pushing for the
equaliser but some dogged defending assured Town held on for a
deserved two points.
Special
mention must go to man-of-the-match Will Guerenneur who was
outstanding throughout and the rest of the back four of
Pinkett, Lowe and Carlton and keeper Jones for keeping a
second clean sheet in three games.
Since
returning from Christmas Town have won two and lost one to top
of the table Alford but the football being played is a joy to
watch and the effort the players are putting in during
training is definitely paying off come match day.

Horncastle
Town U12 travelled to Alford on Sunday to play their U12 team
who have won all 10 of their games and despite a competitive
match the home side extended their winning run to 11.
Alford
opened the scoring early with their striker volleying in
inside the 18 yard box after some good play and a cross from
their left hand side. Town battled hard and could have
equalised after Alford failed to deal properly with a corners
but eventually cleared after a goal mouth scramble. Both sides
looked to score goals with Hunt and Wythe both firing wide
with good efforts and Carlton and Kirk clearing the ball off
the line when Alford got past Jones in the Town goal.
Alford
scored their second early in the second half when Town failed
to clear their lines from an Alford corner, an Alford attacker
beating Jones from close range. Town looked to work their way
back in when Johnson failed to make the best of a through ball
from Kavanagh but Jones in goal was being made to work hard
denying Alford their 3rd with some good saves.
Horncastle scored near the end when a big kick from Jones was
mistimed by the Alford defence allowing Wythe in to score and
give Horncastle the possibility of getting something out of
the game.
Alford
scored their 3rd goal of the game when they caught
Horncastle pressing for the equalizer, breaking down their
left and crossing the ball giving their striker an easy finish
from close range.

08-01-2011
Horncastle
Town U12 started the New Year with a convincing away win
against Boston Community but they did well to come away with a
clean sheet after riding their luck in the early parts of the
match.
Town
started the brighter of the 2 sides dominating the first 10
minutes with Rodrigues, Kirk and Hunt all having shots at
goal. Boston finally broke into the game when they were gained
2 free kicks from just outside the box but Jones saved one and
the other was over the bar. Town very nearly gave Boston the
lead when some calamitous defending resulted in a goal mouth
scramble until Carlton cleared the ball to safety.
It
wasn’t until 20 minutes had passed that Town finally gained
the breakthrough when Wythe scored from 18 yards after some
good build up play. Carlton added the second from close range
after the Boston keeper parried a shot into his path. Town
could have gone in to the break with a commanding 3 goal lead
but Wythe had his penalty saved after Kavanagh had been pulled
down in the box.
Town
continued to dominate in the second half with Rodrigues,
Williams and Johnson all having shots on goal. Jones kept the
visitors at bay when pulling of an excellent save when 1 v 1
with the Boston attacker. Motson extended Town lead to 3 when
he lobbed the keeper from a tight angle and he added his
second shortly after when he scored from close range after
good work on the wing by Johnson. Motson could have completed
his hat-trick but shot wide twice from good positions.
Rodrigues completed the scoring when he beat the keeper from
close range after some good build up play by town.

20-11-2010
Horncastle Town U12 suffered
their second defeat in as many games when they slumped to a
4-1 defeat to Saxilby although the score line was harsh on
Town.
The home side started the
brighter with Jones, in goal, soon being called into action.
Town soon got a grip on the match with Kirk shooting over
after some good build up play. Both sides continued to battle
for control but it was Town who struck first when a long throw
from Williams fell for Johnson who beat the keeper after
holding off the Saxilby defender. Town should have added a
second when Wythe shot wide of the goal after an excellent run
from just inside his won half.
Saxilby equalised early in the
second half when some poor defending from Town gave the
Saxilby attacker plenty of time to pick his spot from 16
yards. Saxilby continued to apply pressure onto Town and they
soon got their reward when a corner was cleared by Town but
only as far as a Saxilby attacker whose chip back in was
headed in at the back post.
Town nearly got back into the
game when Wythe shot wide from a Johnson corner but Saxilby
struck again shortly after when a ball from the back was
quickly brought under control by the Saxilby striker giving
him time beat Jones from close range.
Town again fought back but they
were unable to create any decent goal scoring chances.

Town U12 suffered a tough defeat on Sunday when Welton took
all the points in a close, hard fought game.
The
game started with Welton gaining the early initiative, putting
Town under pressure and forcing Jones to make a couple of good
saves. The home side fought back with Bookman, Johnson and
Wythe all having good chances to open the scoring but chances
for both sides were at a premium as the defenders for both
sides were in control.
Halfway
through the second half a hopeful forward pass from Welton was
poorly dealt with by the Town defence allowing the Welton
striker to score from 10 yards. Town had a couple of chances
to equalise through Carlton and Johnson but Welton kept Town
chances to a minimum and ran out winners.

07-11-2010
Horncastle
Town U12 came from behind twice to pick up all the points
against Market Rasen in a close fought encounter on Sunday.
Market
Rasen started the better of the two side putting Town under
pressure and they earned their reward when the Rasen striker
headed them into an early lead from a corner. Town fought back
with Johnson and Bookman both having attempts at goal but the
score was levelled when a goal kick from Jones found Wythe
with time and space to play in Johnson who beat the Rasen
goalkeeper when 1 v 1.
Town
continued to press and started to dominate proceedings when a
quick ball from midfield caught the defence napping allowing
the Rasen striker time to beat Jones with a low shot. Town
levelled the score again just before half time when Wythe and
Johnson combined to give Johnson space to beat the Rasen
keeper.
Town
continued to play good passing football but they were
struggling to find and end product. It wasn’t until half way
through the second half when Johnson broke down the left and
centred the ball for Wythe to beat 2 defenders and score from
close range to give Town a slender lead.
Rasen dominated the final 10 minutes but Town’s
defence held firm with Rasen’s best chance forcing Jones to

31 - 10 - 2010
Horncastle Town U12 returned to winning ways with a hard
fought victory at Hykeham.
Horncastle started the better of the two sides and soon
opened the scoring when a long clearance from Motson beat the
Hykeham defenders allowing Johnson in to score from 12 yards.
Johnson added to the score soon after when a cross from the
right by Williams was initially missed by Hunt in the box but
Johnson was on hand at the far post to beat the keeper from
close range.
Town continued to press with Hunt hitting the cross bar and
forcing the keeper to make a good save from close range.
Johnson could have completed his hat-trick when pulled down in
the 18 yard box but ensuing
penalty was straight at the keeper.
Hykeham had a number of chances to get on the score sheet but
it wasn’t until late in the half when they finally got a
goal. A penalty was awarded for a push in the box which
Carlton saved but the rebound was bundled in from close range.
In the second half both sides continued to create chances
with Lowe shooting wide from the penalty spot after Rodrigues
was pushed over in the box and Hykeham having the ball cleared
off the goal line 3 times in succession following a goalmouth
scramble but neither side was able to find the back of the net

10-10- 2010
Horncastle Town U12 suffered their 2nd consecutive
league defeat of the season after a well drilled Boston Town
side beat them by 2 goals to 0.
The visitors made their intentions clear from the start
retaining possession and forcing Town to defend deep and look
for attacking options via the counter attack. The Horncastle
keeper, Kyle Jones, was called into action very early on and
pulled off a
string of very good saves to keep the scores level. Horncastle
struggled to create any chances at the other end and it was 5
minutes from half time when Bookman shot wide from range with
a free kick. Shortly after, a mix up in defence for Horncastle
left the Boston striker with an easy chance to score from 8
yards. The visitors looked to go into half time 2 up but they
had one shot hit the woodwork and another was saved by Jones
when 1 v 1 with the Boston attacker.
The visitors continued to dominate the game in the second
half, creating lots of chances but unable to find the back of
the net. Pinkett cleared 2 chances of the goal line and Jones
continued to pull off a series of very good saves to keep the score
down. Boston added their second when a good cross from the

Lincolnshire Co-op Mid Lincs Youth League (Boys) Under 12
Division C
03-10- 2010
Horncastle Town U12 suffered their first league defeat of the
season when early league leaders Swifts U12 visited and,
despite a good showing from the home side, left with all the
points.
Both teams started brightly with Town having the better of
the early play but it was Swifts who opened the scoring when
they beat the offside trap and their striker finished from
close range.
Swifts had the better of Town for most of the first half but
they were unable to extend their lead with Motson clearing the
ball of his own goal line on one occasion.
Town levelled the score when they cleared their lines from a
throw in and Johnson’s pass found Wythe who beat the offside
and ran through to easily beat the Swifts keeper. Town took
the lead just before half time when Williams pass found Wythe
who again beat the Swifts offside to score with a placed shot
from inside the 18 yard box. Town failed to hang on to the
lead for long as Swifts equalised straight from the restart
when they caught Town’s defence napping allowing the Swifts
striker to score from 8 yards.
The second half started with Town looking to gain the
advantage but Swifts took the lead when the home side failed
to clear a corner leaving the Swifts attacker the space to
fire into the top left from 12 yards. The visitors extended
their lead when the keeper came out to claim a ball over the
top but failed to make it leaving the Swifts attacker and
empty net to score in from the edge of the 18 yard box.
The home side applied some pressure to the visitors with
Johnson, Rodrigues and Kavanagh all having chances to pull a
goal back but the Swifts keeper denied them allowing the
visitors to run out winners.

Town U12 first home game of the season was against Boston
Community FC 12 and they made it 2 wins out of 2 with a
convincing win.
The
first half started and Town laid siege to the Boston goal. Rodrigues had an early attempt
saved, Williams hit the post and Kirk, Johnson and Kavanagh
all shot wide. The pressure finally paid off when Kavanagh
played a through ball for Johnson to shoot low into the lower
right corner. The goal took the pressure off the home side and
they started playing attractive football with Wythe having his
shot saved after some excellent build up play. Kirk added the
second of the game when he fired in at the near post from a
Wythe cross.
Town
picked up where they left off in the second half playing
entertaining attacking football. Wythe and Johnson both had
good chances to add to the score, with Wythe eventually making
the score 3 – 0 when he scored from close range after
Carlton crossed in from the left. Town continued to press with
Wythe and Hunt coming close. Wythe completed his hat trick
when Kirk’s initial shot from a
Carlton corner rebounded to Wythe who fired in from 18 yards.
Bookman made the score 5 when he tapped in from close range
after Rodrigues’s
shot was saved by the goal keeper.
Boston
scored a late consolation goal when the Town defence failed to
clear the ball properly allowing the Boston striker to steal
the ball and score when 1 v 1 with Jones.

Horncastle Town U12 travelled to Woodhall Spa for their first
game of the 2010/11 campaign and came away with all the points
after an emphatic win.
Town started brightly applying pressure on the Woodhall goal,
quickly forcing their keeper into action. 5 minutes in and
Town opened the scoring when Kavanagh cut inside from the
right and passed to Johnson, who held off 2 defenders to fire
past the keeper from 7 yards. Johnson soon added his second
when Kavanagh’s pass again found him with enough space to
apply a good finish from 10 yards. Town soon extended their
score when Carlton was quickest to react after a Town corner
had been cleared off the Woodhall Spa goal line. Town caught
Woodhall on the counter with a quick ball over the defence
from Wythe finding Johnson who raced through to score from 18
yards and complete his hat-trick. Wythe scored his first of
the game and made it 0-5 when he quickly pounced on a poor
goal kick, his shot from just inside the Woodhall Spa half
found the back of the net with the keeper stranded in
no-man’s land. Town went into half time on the back of their
6th goal when Kirk’s free kick was flicked on by
Johnson to Kavanagh who scored his first of the game from
close range.
Town continued to attack in the second half and Kavanagh got
his second of the day when he scored from 8 yards after Wythe
crossed from the right. Wythe got his second when Kirk won the
ball on the edge of the box and played him in to finish from
close range. Guerenneur bagged himself a goal, scoring from
close range when Lowe flicked on a corner and Johnson added
his 4th from the corner of the 18 yard box after
some excellent counter attacking play involving Wythe,
Kavanagh and Rodrigues. Motson scored Town’s 11th
when he fired in from a tight angle and Wythe completed the
scoring and his hat-trick when he finished from inside the 18
yard box after pouncing on a long pass over the top of the
Woodhall Spa defence.
Woodhall Spa had a number of chances to grab a consolation
goal or two but Kyle Jones in goal for Town denied them at
every opportunity to record his first clean sheet of the
season.
