Horncastle
travelled to Welton looking to continue their winning run but,
despite late goals from Wythe and Bruntlett, suffered their
first defeat in 4 games.
Welton
kicked off and created some early chances but Town soon
created some chances of their own with Wythe, Bruntlett and
Johnson all having shots on goal. Welton then took control of
the game dominating the midfield and only allowing Town to
create chances through counter attacking. Carlton produced
some good saves to keep the score goalless and towards the end
of the first half Town could have taken the lead but Wythe’s
shot hit the post.
Welton
continued to dominate most of the play but Bookman and
Bruntlett both saw their shot miss the goal. Welton took the
lead when a mix up at the back for Town gave the Welton
attacker an easy goal from close range. Welton extended their
lead shortly after when a cross from the left was flicked in
at the near post. Welton spurned some good chances but they
eventually scored their third when their attacker saw his
initial shot saved but he put away the rebound. Late in the
day Wythe scored from the edge of the box and right at the end
Bruntlett picked up a ball from the back, turned the centre
half and fired in from 18 yards with a quality finish.

Town U13 secured all the points in their last home game of the
season with a one sided affair against seven man Cranwell.
Horncastle
were looking to make it 3 wins out of 3 after beating Market
Rasen 8 -1 on Saturday and with Cranwell only able to field 7
players their chances were improved considerably.
Cranwell
defended well for the first 20 minutes but the home side
opened the scoring through Bookman, beating the keeper from 8
yards after his initial shot was blocked. Wythe added his
first of the game when he latched onto a ball from Jones,
cutting inside to beat the keeper from close range. Rodrigues
completed the first half scoring poking home from close range
after Cranwell failed to clear their lines.
Shortly
after half time Wythe added his second of the game when he
collected a pass from Rodrigues and beat the keeper from 6
yards. Rodrigues added his second shortly after, heading in
from a Bookman cross. Kavanaugh grabbed his first goal when
his shot skidded under the Cranwell keeper and Kirk added
another, clipping his shot over the onrushing keeper after the
initial shot from Bookman was parried out. Kavanaugh scored
his second by chipping the keeper, Johnson added the 9th
firing low to the keepers right after the initial shot by
Farmer was parried away and Guerenneur made it 10 firing high
into the net from a tight angle.

Louth Town travelled to Horncastle and suffered their first
defeat of the season due to some fine saves from Carlton and a
last minute winner from Bruntlett.
Penalty
Save
Both
sides had early chances but it was the visitors who had the
best chance when Carlton saved a penalty after a Louth player
was fouled in the box. Town nearly opened the scoring when
Whyte shot wide but the visitors scored the only goal of the
half when a quick break caught the Horncastle defence napping
giving the Louth striker an easy finish from close range.
Goal
1
Town
came out after the interval and got their reward after putting
Louth under some pressure. A corner was well cleared by Louth
but Horncastle regained possession with some good play and a
quick ball from Guerenneur was flicked on by Motson to
Bruntlett who comfortably beat the keeper.
Goal
2
Louth
took the lead shortly after some good build up play on the
left gave the attacker an easy finish from 8 yards.
Horncastle soon rallied and created some good chances but it
was Bruntlett who levelled the scores when he latched onto a
long pass and slotted home past the keeper.
Goal

Carlton
was called upon to deny Louth in the closing stages with a
couple of good saves but a free kick from Brockman with a
minute to go was latched onto by Bruntlett who beat the keeper
low to the left to consign the visitors to their first defeat
of the season and give Horncastle a well-earned win over the
league leaders.

Horncastle Town U13 hosted local rivals Woodhall Spa
U13 on Sunday and came away with nothing losing by the odd
goal in 5 due to early defensive frailties.
The visitors kicked off in with a strong wind at
their backs and they soon took early lead. A goal kick was
flicked on to the left wing attacker who ran through to beat
Carlton from close range. The home side fell even further
behind shortly after when the visitors scored a penalty when a
Woodhall attacker was fouled in the box after Town failed to
properly clear their lines from some Woodhall Spa pressure.
Woodhall continued to exert pressure forcing Carlton into a
number of good saves but the home side got themselves on the
score sheet when Bruntlett scored from the spot following a
foul on Bookman. Woodhall scored their third shortly after
when a throw in from the left caught Town napping and was
easily put away by the Woodhall Spa forward.
Town kicked off the second half looking for an early
goal to get them back into the game but they were forced to
wait until half way through the half when Bookman charged down
a defensive clearance and scored from the edge of the 18 yard
box. Town looked to equalise but a long range effort from Hunt
hit the woodwork, Bruntlett put a good effort wide and they
had a couple of penalty shouts for hand ball turned away by
the ref allowing the visitors to hang on to their goal
advantage and claim the victory.

Town U13 travelled to Boston Saints on Sunday and came away
with all the points and a clean score sheet by beating their
hosts 4-0.
Boston
kicked off and both sides created early chances but it was the
visitors who opened the scoring when Kirk’s pass gave Wythe
the opportunity to beat the defender and score from 10 yards.
Bruntlett looked to extend the lead when he put a good chance
just wide of the post and Boston had a chance to equalise from
a free kick on the edge of the box but
Wythe added his second when he headed in at the back post
following a
surging run down the right from Bruntlett. Boston compounded
their problems at the end of the first half when they had a
player booked for a silly foul on Johnson.
Town
kicked off the second half but Boston immediately put them
under pressure forcing Carlton to make a number of good saves
Guerenneur and Hunt, in the heart of Town’s defence, had to
make a number of firm challenges but they kept Boston off the
score sheet. Both sides had goals disallowed for off side and
Bruntlett and Rodrigues both failed to convert good chance. An
in swinging free kick from Brockman on the right was met by
Kavanagh at the near post who directed an excellent header
past the Boston keeper. Johnson had a chance near the end
following some good build up play between himself and Kavanagh
leaving Wythe to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot
just before full time when Rodrigues was fouled by the Boston
keeper in the box.

Horncastle
travelled to Navenby on Sunday to play undefeated and top of
the table Navenby Juniors U13 and were unlucky not to come
away with a
share of the points.
Both
sides created early chances with Navenby shooting wide from a
corner and Bruntlett having his effort saved when 1v1 with the
keeper. The home side nearly opened the scoring when they
failed to capitalise on a short back pass to Carlton in goal
but they took their chance shortly after. Town failed to mark
properly from a corner giving the Navenby attacker and easy
chance to score from close range. Navenby looked to extend
their lead but Carlton denied them with some good saves but,
again, Town failed to defend a corner properly and the Navenby
attacker scored at the near post. Town fought back with
Bruntlett having a free kick from 20 yds. out saved but he
soon made amends by scoring from close range after the Navenby
keeper failed
to keep hold of a shot from Farmer.
Navenby
extended their lead early in the second half when some quick
play on their left gave their striker room to shoot low into
bottom right corner. Navenby looked to add more to the score
sheet but some poor finishing from and good goalkeeping from
Carlton kept them at bay. Town had chances to get back into
the game with Harrison having a shot cleared off the line,
Farmer shooting wide and Bruntlett having two good chances
ruled out for off side allowing Navenby to hold on for all the
points.

Horncastle
travelled to Saltfleetby on Sunday to play undefeated Louth
Town and despite a valiant effort came away empty handed.
Louth
kicked off with a strong wind at their back and the early
exchanges saw both sides creating chances. Louth opened the
scoring when Carlton came out to collect a cross but did gain
control of the ball giving the Louth striker an easy finish
into an empty net. The home side continued to press forcing
Carlton into action on a couple of occasions and hitting the
bar. Town fought back and they had a penalty shout turned down
when Bruntlett was fouled in the 18 yard box and Kavanagh
fired over from close range. Louth extended their lead when a
cross from their right was converted from inside the 18 yard
box and they made it 3-0 just before half time when their
attacker found space to shoot low into the corner from the
right.
Louth
Towns 3rd goal was quite controversial was it a goal or not?
The
second half started with Town playing with the wind and they
soon got
on the score sheet when Harrison fired in from close
range from a corner. Town
were in the ascendency and really started to make a game of it
when Bruntlett latched onto a through ball from Brockman and
rounded the keeper to score from a tight angle. Both sides
fought hard but it was Louth who added to the score line when
their striker battled through to score from close range.
Horncastle pressed to rectify the score line but were caught
short at the back allowing the Louth attacker to break through
and score 1v1 against Carlton.

Town
drew Rustons from the ‘B’ league in the first round of the
Todds AC league cup. Seeing that Rustons were in the division
higher and had a 100% league record having played nine and won
nine we knew this was going to be tough to progress to the
next round. Although town went down 4-1 the lads gave a great
account of themselves defending resolutely throughout and
playing some good football for the whole 70 minutes. Two
minutes before the break and one nil down the Rustons left
winger who was of real quality raced clear of Louis Williams
and produced a delightful dink over Carlton in goal to make it
2-0 at half time. Town conceded from a corner five minutes
into the second half but to the lads credit their heads
didn’t drop and they got their reward when Tom Johnson raced
clear and fired an unstoppable shot over the keeper from
twenty yards. Rustons scored again five minutes before the end
to seal the game but town finished with their heads held high
after giving the ‘B’ leagues table toppers a real run for
their money.

Another
disappointing start to the game was to be towns downfall here
as after twenty minutes we found ourselves 4-0 down. A Ryan
Brockman screamer from 30 yards gave us hope of getting in the
match five minutes from half time. After some harsh words from
the manager town did give it a good go with Tom Johnson
scoring two quick fire goals both one-on-ones with Tom giving
the keeper no chance. It was not meant to be for town though
as with five minutes to go and pushing for an equaliser a long
ball over the top saw Mayflowers striker tuck the ball past
Riegan Carlton in goal. Mayflower finished off the scoring
with the last kick of the game to give them a deserving 6-3
win.

contributed to a fine win and every goal scored was of real

Town

both

never really created anything in front of goal before the half
time whistle blew. Town started the second half much brighter
and soon levelled through a neat Ben Wythe finish from eight
yards out. Both sides had half chances to winthe game but it ended with town drawing two games on
the bounce.

Town
U13s went into this game on a high from the previous weeks
hammering of Hykeham. It was thought this would be a tight
encounter
between two evenly matched teams and this is how things turned
out. A shocking first half hour saw town go 3-0 down but
thankfully Ben Wythe gave us hope of a comeback with a great
25 yard lob over the keeper in the final minutes of the half.
This proved to be the boost town needed as a more spirited
second half showing saw us get back to 3-2 through a well
taken James Bruntlett strike. With ten minutes to go town had
a free kick which was took by Ryan Brockman which somehow
squeezed between the keeper and the post to level the game up.
With the last kick of the game Tom Johnson could of won it for
town but his right foot volley drifted agonisingly wide of the
post. In the end a point each was a fair result as Mayflower
ran the show first half but town battled back well in the
second half.

The
best performance of the season so far came against Hykeham
Tigers. The final result was 8-1 but the visitors couldn’t
have complained if the score line
was doubled with a mixture of good defending and poor
finishing keeping the score to single figures. A brace each
from Joe Farmer and Tom Johnson and goals from Archie
Kavanagh, James Bruntlett, Ryan Brockman and Oakley Rodrigues
completed the rout. All thirteen players can be pleased with
their performance with this being a great all round team
performance. James Bruntletts goal in particular stood out
with a great move down the right involving five of our players
saw Ben Wythe lay the ball off to Bruntsy who calmly slotted
the ball into the bottom corner.

Horncastle
under 13s welcomed Nettleham to the wong on a perfect day for football.
Nettleham were relegated from the B league so this was to be a
tough game for Town. A slow start saw Nettleham take an early
lead but James Bruntletts fourth goal in three games levelled
things up at the break. A tight second half meant chances were
few and far between but it was the visitors who left with
points thanks to the unfortunate Ryan Brockman who from a
corner headed into his own net. In the end a disappointing
loss against a team no better than us.

The
under 13s took the short trip to local rivals Woodhall for
their first away match
of the season. Playing into a strong wind first half the lads
played some really good football going in at half time with a
2 goal to nil advantage. James Bruntlett finished off a good
passing move with a calm finish and Joe Hunts cross-come-shot
found the top corner on the stroke of half time. The next goal
of the game was to prove crucial and it was Woodhall who got
it. A long ball over the top was met by the striker and he
slotted the ball past Riegan Carlton in goal. With only five
minutes to go a ball into the box caused confusion and Jack
Motsons raised hand made contact with the ball and the referee
had no option but to award the penalty. This was duly
converted by the Woodhall striker. With the last kick of the
game James Bruntlett had a good chance to score with an
in-direct free kick ten yards out but it was struck straight
at the wall and in the end both managers agreed a draw was the
fair result.

it was a matter of getting early goals and not giving Saxilby

minutes made sure of this with James Bruntlett and Tom Johnson
scoring their first goals of the season. To their credit
Saxilby stayed in the game until 20 minutes to go when James

Town U13 suffered a resounding home defeat on Sunday in their
opening game of the season when they hosted Navenby.
Both
teams fought hard in the first half but it was Navenby who had
the better of the early chances. They finally scored on the 20
minute mark when a cross from the left was not properly
cleared allowing the Navenby attacker to score low past
goalkeeper Jones.
Navenby
continued to apply pressure to Town forcing Jones into a
number of saves but Town equalised right on the stroke of half
time. Johnson broke down the left and his cross was pushed out
by the Navenby keeper for Wythe to score into an empty net.
The
second half started badly for Town with Navenby taking the
lead from a free kick. Town battled to get back in but were
quickly behind even more when a chance shot went in off the
post, a cross was deflected in by a Town defender and another
shot slipped through the keepers gloves. At this point the
home side’s head’s went down and Navenby scored quite
freely adding 5 more to make the final score 1-9.
