U16 Mid Lincs League
13-02-2011
Horncastle U16 travelled to North Kesteven Sports Club to take
on Greenbank JFC who had an impressive record of wins under
their belt this season. Town were without regulars Miles
Hanson and Ryan Elmhirst who were unavailable for
selection and had only one substitute Joel Vine. However
Town were in a determined mood and took the game to Greenbank
from the starting whistle despite kicking into a strong head
wind in the first half. Town wingers Liam Hartley and Grant
Fixter who made his debut for Town having being signed on a
free Bosman Transfer (and £20 transfer fee) both made good
early runs testing the Greenbank full backs and strikers
Daniel Burn and Jonny Dyas pressed forwards linking up well
with the wingers. Grant Fixter narrowly missed scoring his
first goal for Town when a Hartley cross placed the ball at
his feet on the edge of the 6 yard box but leaning back at the
time Grant fired the ball just over the bar. Midfielders Harry
Baxter (C) and Ollie Myers started to dominate the midfield
and Greenbank were unable to handle their strength and pace in
the middle of the park. The sustained pressure of Town led to
Baxter making a foraging run into the opposition 18 yard box
before being bought down by a crunching tackle and strong
appeals for a penalty that resulted in nothing more than
Baxter receiving a nasty lump on his ankle slowing him down
for 10 minutes until he ran it off. Finally a set piece corner
from Town resulted in Daniel Burns connecting with a good
header on the penalty spot and causing Greenbank to hand ball
in the penalty area. Step up Grant Fixter who neatly slotted
the ball in the left hand corner scoring on his debut. Town
continued to press and went in 1 - 0 up at the half time
whistle.
In the second half Town picked up where they left off and Joel
Vine came on for Ben Powell who had a good first half but came
off to give Joel a run out at right back. Town continued with
some dogged and determined play putting pressure on the
opposition keeper with some impressive distance shots from
Burns, Baxter and Hartley. Then finally another break through
when Jonny Dyas showed his pace nipping in front of the
central defender who bought him down heavily to earn Town
another penalty. Step up Grant again who held his nerve and
picked his spot and slotted the ball once again past the left
side of the keeper who managed to get a hand on the ball but
couldn't deny Town their second well earned goal.
Jonny
Dyas came off in the second half to bring on fresh legs once
again as Ben Powell came on as right back and Joel Vine sat
just in front of the defence to preserve Towns lead and leave
Daniel up front as the lone striker. Then Josh Burton who had
been impressive once again as left back was forced to retire
with a groin strain and so Jonny Dyas was back on this time as
make shift left back. Centre backs Josh Bell and Alex Gregory
provided a stalwart defence easily coping with the new
formation. Town continued to press and were finally
rewarded as Baxter made another determined run and fired
home from 30 yards out finding the top right hand corner. At
the final whistle Town had earned their 3 - 0 win away from
home with a determined display and at times some excellent
football. It should be mentioned that James Stones earned
his first clean sheet with another solid display. Town are now
on a roll and are unbeaten in their last 3 games.
Man of the match was awarded to Harry Baxter.
Team Line Up - Keeper James Stones, Right back Ben
Powell, Left back Josh Burton, Centre backs Alex Gregory and
Josh Bell, Right wing Liam hartley, Left wing Grant Fixter,
Centre Midfield Ollie Myers and Harry Baxter(C), Strikers
Daniel Burn and Jonny Dyas and Sub Joel Vine. Keeper was Pete Claydon
from Greenbank.
HTFC U16 2 Heckington Juniors FC U16 2
U16 Mid Lincs League
30-01-2011
HTFC U16 took on Heckington at the Wong on a fresh winters
morning expecting a hard game and were not disappointed.
Horncastle had a depleted squad with Jonny Dyas out with
a thigh strain and Dan Green unavailable. Joel Vine was Towns
only super sub in comparison to Heckington who had players to
spare. Horncastle looked in control at the start of
the match and produced some good early pressure however
Heckington stole a goal against the run of play slotting the
ball over James Stones for a 1 - 0 lead.
Town kept their heads
up and continued to play some good attacking football
with Liam Hartley coming close to scoring with a good shot
from the edge of the box on the right hand side. Town
pressure was rewarded with a corner that Josh Burton took
from the right hand side and placed it on the head of Josh
Bell who used his height and salmon like spring to drive
the ball past the opposition keeper, 1 - 1 and all to play for
on this heavy winter pitch. Town then continued to drive forwards
with a solid defence and strong keeping from James "the
cat" Stoner allowing the midfield and forwards to attack
the opposition line which produced another corner for Town.
Burton once again delivered an excellent cross that
Heckington failed to clear and Ollie Myers with great strength
and determination drove the ball past the keeper from the edge
of the 6 yards box. The cheer leaders Pam and Adele went
mad in the tea kiosk as Town took a well deserved 2 - 1
lead.
Half time and things
were looking good but still a long way to go. Joel came
on at right back as Ben Powell came off to give him a run
out having had a good first half. Town came out with the right
attitude in the second half but were met by a completely
transformed Heckington side who took the game onto a fair but
physical footing producing some hard tackling and
determined football. Town rose to the occasion meeting the
opposition head on and were not to be intimidated by the new
approach from Heckington.
Then Burton had to
come off with a groin injury and was replaced by Ben Powell
and in the confusion Heckington produced an excellent
inspirational shot from the edge of the 18 yard box and evened
the score at 2 - 2. Town continued to play some good football
on occasions and were determined not to loose this game and
fought hard against this dogged Heckington. Ollie Myers had
another solid and stalwart game in midfield along with
Harry Baxter who put in an excellent captains
performance. Town continued to produce chances with good
possession and runs by Daniel Burn and Miles Hanson. Then
injury struck again Daniel Burn being restricted to a jog
after a crunching tackle and then Ollie Myers suffered an
attack of cramps leaving Town vulnerable. Alex Gregory
steadied the opposition with some crunching tackles
of his own and Josh Bell continued to play well at the
centre of defence. The team rallied and were relieved to
hear the final whistle and a well-earned point. (Thats point
not pint). Man of the match was awarded to Josh Bell for a
third consecutive impressive performance.
Team - R Back Ben Powell, L Back Josh Burton, Centre
backs Josh Bell and Alex Gregory. Right wing Liam Hartley,
Left wing Ryan Elmurst, Left Midfield Ollie Myers and
Right midfield Harry Baxter (C), Strikers Miles Hanson and
Daniel Burn, Sub Joel Vine. Referee Neil Burn (Fair
but firm).

Town v Ermine Eagles
U16 Mid Lincs League
23-01-2011
HTFC
U16 side achieved their first win of the season against
Ermine Eagles with an impressive performance on
a heavy Wong pitch. Playing in a completely new formation
for the second consecutive game HTFC U16 looked more balanced
and polished in all areas of the pitch.
Town
went on the attack from the starting whistle and a sustained
period of pressure led to an own goal by the opposition who slotted
the ball in their own net from the penalty spot (our first big
break - hallelujah!). Ollie Myers and Harry Baxter then
began to boss the midfield unleashing wingers Liam
Hartley and Ryan Elmhurst who made some impressive runs down
the flanks. Daniel Burn and Jonny Dyer then showed pace and determination
up front stretching the opposition defence and Town began to
take control looking dangerous on the break creating chance. Ryan Elmhurst
then broke loose on the left skinning the right back and drove
the ball over an oncoming keeper from the 18 yard line (2 - 0)
up at half time and looking good.
Town
came out for the second half attempting to continue the
form of the first half but disaster struck with an early goal
from Ermine Eagles who clearly weren't going to lie down
without a fight. After some controlled jumping up and
down by their manager on the sideline HTFC began to
battle and the defence showed what they were made of
delivering some timely and solid tackles. Josh Bell
particularly shone in his new position of centre back
along the impressive Alex Gregory. Josh Burton gave a solid
performance in the first half as left back before making way
for Joel Vine in the second half who certainly did not let the
standard drop. Jonny Dyer who had been nursing a pulled
thigh muscle was forced to retire in the second half and
Dan Green came on to play just behind Daniel Burn.
Town continued to battle as so too did Ermine Eagles making
for an entertaining game and keeper James Stones continued to
show cat like tendencies making some impressive saves on
occasions. Then the managers prayers were finally
answered and he rose to his feet as a corner was finally
converted having been hammered over by Dan Green to be
met by Ollie Myers who nodded the ball into the top left hand
corner (the crowd were on their feet led by the tea
ladies and chief cheer leaders Adele Burns and Pamela Baxter). Town were
in control now and continued to press and Harry Baxter went on
a solo run before neatly slotting the ball past the keeper on
his left hand side. Town were tired but jubilant as the final
whistle sounded and the popping of a champagne cork could
be heard from the side lines. Man of the match went to
Ben Powell who gave a stalwart performance at right back.
Line
up - Keeper James Stones, Right back Ben Powell, Left back
Josh Burton, Centre backs Josh Bell and Alex Gregory, Right
wing Liam Hartley, Left Wing Ryan Elmhurst, Right midfield
Harry Baxter (C), left midfield Ollie Myers, Striker
Daniel Burn and Jonny Dyers. Subs Joel Vine and Dan Green.
Referee Neil Burn.
Town
are at home to Heckington next Sunday (Fingers crossed).

Town 0 Alford Town 3
21-11-2010
HTFC Under 16 side played host to Alford Town on a rain soaked and heavy
pitch but with a good turn out of supporters on both sides who
happily contributed to the club snack facilities as they
watched an excellent game of two halves. Town put in a lack
lustre performance in the first half and conceded two goals
early on which could have been prevented. However it must be
said that Alfords third goal before half time was indefensible
as the opposition player hit a sweet shot from outside the 18
yard box finding the top right hand corner. To make matters
worse left winger Ryan Elmust who had started well was
replaced towards the end of the first half after
badly twisting his knee in the muddy conditions. Josh Burton
came on as his replacement and it must be said gave an
extremely solid performance and showed plenty of commitment
and flair.
After some strong words of encouragement from the Manager and his
Assistant Manager Jack Baxter at half time Town came out a
different side and dominated play throughout the second half.
Midfielders Josh Bell and Daniel Burn worked tirelessly in the
centre of the park and Miles Hanson had his best game of the
season linking well with the midfield and striker Harry Baxter
who made an excellent contribution in the second half and was
unlucky to score. Joel Vine came on in the second half to
replace Ben Powell who had given his usual solid performance
and entertained the crowd with some robust tackling and silky
skills at right back. Jonny Dyas also had a confident game at
left back and Alex Gregory and Ollie Myers were untroubled in
the second half at centre of defence dealing easily with the
Alford forwards. James "The Cat" Stoner had a
third outstanding game in a row and continues to improve
with every game between the posts. Similarly right winger Liam
Hartley continues to improve in his position and troubled the
opposition throughout the game.
Miles Hanson was awarded Man of the Match which was thoroughly deserved.
Town are away to Cranwell next week with a morning kick off of 10:45am.
No rest for the wicked! - onwards and upwards.

FC 3 Horncastle Town FC 1
07-11-
2010
Played
at Heckington on a heavy pitch following a monsoon the night
before HTFC U16 gave their best performance in this away leg.
Town started by far the brighter with an early goal from
striker Harry Baxter that was deflected into the net by the
opposition. Town then came under the cosh from Heckington
who currently sit second in the table and conceded a goal
before half time. Town continued to press and were arguebly the
better side in the first half. Town Keeeper James Stones gave
his best performance of the year in this first half and all
the hard work in training started to show in his confident
positional play and ball handling.
In the second half Town continued to press with a solid team
display and Josh Burton came on as sub at the start of
the half for Ryan Elmurst who had given an excellent
first half account of himself. However Town left back
Jonny Dyas who had twisted his ankle in the first half was
then clattered with an extremely physical challenge in the
second half being awarded a free kick and a swollen knee resulting
in his early retirement from thee game. This was a shame for
Town as Jonny had an outstanding game prior to
substitution. Burton slipped confidently into his role at left
back and Elmurst came back on as left winger. Harry Baxter was
then bought down in the opposition penalty area after a promising
run with a blatant push sending him to the ground as he was
one on one with the keeper. The opposition referee put the
whistle to his lips but nothing sounded with a realisation the
offence occurred in the penalty box leaving the crowd
incredulous as play continued. This was to prove decisive with
the opposition scoring shortly afterwards leaving Town 2-1
down. Town continued to press but with time running out
conceded in the last few minutes leaving an unjust scoreline 3
- 1 to Heckington. (That's football folks!).
A positive display once again in the second half from Keeper
James Stones resulted in him being awarded Man of the Match.
Another bonus for Town was the solid display from Dan Green at
right back following injury to Ben Powell who was unable to
start. This Town side continue to improve with every game and
showed character and flare in this away leg and are beginning
to show they can play some attractive and determined football.
Town are through to the second round of the County Cup and
play Sleaford who sit in the league above them next Sunday
- kick off 10:45am at the Wong.

0 - 7 Retford United FC "B"
31-10-
2010
HTFC
U16C played Retford United FC "B" for the first time
this season and despite showing improvement and a solid team
display lost 0 7. Town were without their usual keeper James
Stones and Josh Burton stood in and gave a good account of
himself despite the unflattering score line.
Town
conceded 3 soft goals in the first half and were forced to
substitute Right Back Ben Adlington early on in the
proceedings who suffered with a hip injury. Joel Vine filled
in until half time showing some good touches. Ben came on
again at the start of the second half but was forced to go off
after only 2 minutes. Enter Dan "Berbatov" Green who
showed some classy touches as right back and some solid
defensive work as the match got a little physical in the
second half. Josh Bell and Daniel Burn performed well in the
centre of midfield and Ryan Elmhurst and Liam Hartley worked
hard on their respective wings to trouble the opposition.
Miles Hanson linked in well with Harry Baxter at the front who
continued to battle despite the opposition doubling up on him
and giving him a difficult ride.
This
newly formed Town side showed promising signs of gelling as a
team and to their credit their heads never went down and gave
as good as they got in the second half. Man of the match
deservedly went to Ollie Myers who gave another stalwart
defensive display at the centre of defence along with Alex
Gregory.

North
Parade 6 - 2 Horncastle Town U16
17-10-
2010
HTFC U16C made a promising start away from home to
North Parade who had only been defeated once in 6 games. After
some early pressure from Town Jonny Dyer back heeled in the 6
yards box to nutmeg the opposition keeper and put Town 1-0 up.
Town continued to pressure the opposition with Ben Powell and
Miles Hanson linking up well on the right touchline. However
North Parade managed to snatch a goal against the run of play
after a lapse of concentration by the defence and levelled the
scoring. An error by the goalkeeper James Stones then led to
another goal for the home side quickly followed up by another
2 goals when Town lost their way leading to an undeserved 4-1
lead by North Parade. This was disappointing as Town had
played some outstanding football up to this period with
impressive runs from Jonny Dyer from left back and Ryan
Elmurst on the left wing. However Town rallied and some good
pressure from Daniel Burn and Harrry Baxter led to a
well-taken goal by Miles Hanson from the edge of the area
slipping the ball neatly into the corner of the net. 4-2 just
before half time and Town were back in it.
Josh
Burton who had given a good account of him self as centre mid
field came off at the start of the second half to give
substitute Joel Vine a run out who despite being out of his
comfort zone in this position made some crunching tackles as
Town drove on in search of goals. James Stones made 2 great
saves early on in the second half to keep Town in the game and
some excellent defending from Ollie Myers and Alex
Gregory kept North Parade at bay for long periods. However
after another courageous save from Stoner, Ben Powell slotted
the ball in the top right hand corner of his own net in an
attempt to keep out the opposition forwards. This was the only
blot on an otherwise superb display by the tenacious right
back. Town then conceded another goal late despite some
valiant work from mid-field dynamo Josh Bell leaving the
closing score line at 6-2 to North Parade. Town
looked by far the better team for most of the game despite the
flattering score line playing some attractive football at
times and when they manage to stem their flow of unforced
errors during games will be a match for anyone in this league.

Welton FC 3 - 3 Horncastle Town U16
10-10- 2010
Horncastle
Town Football Club Under 16 side are back in business this
year after a one year absence. HTFC were unable to
raise an U15 team last year despite the valiant
efforts of Manager Neil Burn to keep the team running. However thanks
to the efforts of one Harry Baxter who filled in the interim
season playing for Welton U15 A , a squad of 15
players signed on this year for HTFC U16 with some new faces
to the squad including a new Manager Sean Baxter and Assistant
Manager Jack Baxter.
The new Squad is as follows:
1. James Stones
2. Alex Gregory
3. Josh Burton
4. Josh Bell
5. Ollie Myers
6. Liam Hartley
7. Jonny Dyers
8. Miles Hanson
9. Ryan Callaghan
10.Harry Baxter (Captain)
11. Dan Green
12. Ryan Elmurst
14. Daniel Burn
15. Ben Powell
16. Jack Oxley
17. Joel Vine
HTFC U16s lost their first match 7 2 at home to Cranwell with
the score not reflecting the performance of a new Town
side with goals from Harry Baxter and Ryan Callaghan.
Town were only 2 1 down at half time but had a mad 5 minutes
in which they conceded 3 goals in the second half.
Town faired better against North Parade at home and were
on level terms at half time with an excellent individual goal
from striker Harry Baxter. However Town conceded 2 poor goals
in the second half finishing 3 1 down at full time.
After cancellations against Retford and then Welton FC beyond
their control Town took on Welton FC at their home ground at
Manor Park. Town started the brighter side with right winger
Liam Hartley making a good break down the flank before passing
to Harry Baxter who set up Daniel Burn who finished clinically
in the corner. However Town then conceded a poor goal in a
goalmouth scramble leaving Welton on even terms. However
Town continued to press and the Welton Keeper took down Harry
Baxter after a one on one at the end of an impressive run
resulting in a booking for the goalie. Daniel Burn
converted the penalty leaving Town 2 1 in the lead at half
time. Town then switched off at the start of the second
half allowing the Welton right-winger to waltz through their
defence and score past the exposed James Stones. A second goal
was then conceded shortly afterwards leaving Town trailing 3 2
away from home. However this newly formed Town side showed
character with some excellent defending and continued to press
the opposition before striker Harry Baxter again went one on
one with the keeper and neatly rounded the stranded goalie
before slotting the ball into the left hand corner of the
goal. Dan Green came on at the start of the second
half for a run out in place of Miles Hanson to play behind
striker Baxter and hit the bar after a skilful flick from just
inside the 18 yard box. Ryan Elmurst replaced Josh
Burrton who had been kept busy as left back in a torrid first
half and kept up the standard set by Burton and Ryan Callaghan
played well as a stand in right back owing to the absent Ben
Powell. Town came away with their first point of the season
after a well deserved 3 3 draw. Managers Man of the match was
awarded to Liam Hartley for his contribution but could have been
awarded to any of the team on this occasion.
